Agricultural census: Workshop on collecting agricultural census opened

The opening ceremony of workshop on the method for the collecting agricultural census in Myanmar was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on 27th July with the attendance of Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo, deputy minister, permanent secretary, director generals, deputy director generals, rectors and the responsible officials from Nay Pyi Taw Council, regions, states, district and township level officials of the department of agricultural land management and statistics.

At the meeting, the union minister said that the responsibility of the department of agricultural land management and statistics which releases the information of the projects implementing for the interest of the farmers and land use of the government including agriculture and statistics is paramount important.

Under the organizing of FAO, the collection of agricultural census is conducted once in a decade extensively. In Myanmar, the agricultural census was collected for four times in 1953, 1993, 2003 and 2010 by the department of agricultural land management and statistics in line with the World Census of Agriculture Guidelines with the technical support of FAO. 

Next, the director general of the department of agricultural land management and statistics U Thet Naing Oo clarified the preparations for collecting agricultural census.

The workshop is held for reviewing and assessing the Methodoly of Agricultural Census, Sketch Map and List Frame, exchanging views on the prospective work process as per the region and to share the facts of discussions and findings to the relevant personnel.

The workshop was attended over 100 officers of the department of agricultural land management and statistics from Nay Pyi Taw, regions and states who will be responsible for the supervisors in the implementation of project in the relevant areas, it’s reported.
