







A delegation led by Daw Than Than Swe, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, attended the 53rd Board of Directors meeting of the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) via video conference At 12:00 PM Myanmar Standard Time on September 9.
The meeting was hosted online by Iran. The meeting was attended by central bank governors, deputy governors, executive directors, and observers from ACU member countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Belarus. The central banks of Russia and Afghanistan also attended as observers.
During the meeting, attendees watched a video clip celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ACU, which included congratulatory messages from the central bank governors of member countries. Discussions were held on various topics, including macroeconomic issues of ACU member countries in the 2023-2024 fiscal year, progress on payment systems in member countries, strengthening the ACU, implementing payments using member countries' currencies, including the Indian Rupee, in addition to ACU Dollar, ACU Euro, and ACU Yen for trade among ACU members, amendments to ACU payment procedures and rules, the status of the implementation of the ACU payment information system and future steps to connect designated ACU banks, integrating payment systems among ACU member countries, implementing ACU Central Bank Digital Currency, payment-related risk management and providing capacity-building training for officials of ACU member central banks. The meeting concluded at 5:30 p.m. Myanmar Standard Time, it’s learnt.
