9,423 meters: China opens Asia's deepest oil and gas well

China's petrochemical giant Sinopec has completed a 9,432-meter-deep oil and gas well, setting a new record for the deepest onshore directional well in Asia, said the company on Wednesday.

Located in the petroliferous Tarim Basin in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the record-breaking Yuejin 3-3XC well of the Shendi-1 project is expected to produce 200 tons of crude oil and 50,000 cubic meters of natural gas per day.

The achievement, secured after 177 days of drilling operations from May 1, marks significant advances in the exploration and development of ultra-deep oil and gas resources in China.
