78th Religious Examination: 18th Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Sayadaw emerged

The 78th Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Selection Examination was successfully held for 33 days, from December 21, 2025, to January 22.

At this examination, Venerable Vicittasara, aged 51 with 31 vassa, from Tipitaka Maha Gandawin Nikaya Monastery, Dagon Myothit (East), Yangon Region, was recognized as the 18th Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida Sayadaw, a distinguished religious title.

The Tipitakadhara Tipitakakovida examinations began in 1948 and have now been held 78 times. From the 1st to the 77th examinations, a total of 17 Sayadaws had received the title. This year’s success marks the emergence of the 18th holder of the religious title.

Candidates must recite and interpret major texts from the Vinaya Pitaka, Suttanta Pitaka, and Abhidhamma Pitaka to earn the Tipitakadhara title, and pass written examinations for the Tipitakakovida title.
