Seven European countries are to begin issuing digital COVID certificates, according to a spokesperson for the EU Commission on Tuesday. Those seven countries are Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Greece and Poland. Other members of the 27-nation bloc will also join them in coming weeks.
Johannes Bahrke, Spokesperson for European Commission said "This is a great success well ahead of time, which gives us every reason to be confident that the system will be fully up and running by the 1st of July when the regulation on the certificate will enter into application."
The certificates will be issued to people who are fully vaccinated, those already contracted the coronavirus in the past and so have developed anti-bodies, and those who have had a PCR test within the last 72 hours. The documents will take both digital and paper form.
