Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Myo Htut attended the Launching Ceremony of the “6thAnniversary of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Week 2022” held in the Thursday afternoon organized by the People’s Government of Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China through video conference.

At the launching ceremony, Vice Governor of Yunnan Provincial Government, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Myo Htut, Counselor of the Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China delivered the remarks.

The Consul Generals and delegates of the Mekong-Lancang countries residing in Kunming, China also participated in the ceremony.

At the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister, U Kyaw Myo Htut stated the significant role of Yunnan Province in the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation for its strong historical ties and traditional friendship with the neighbouring countries, and representation of Lancang-Mekong River not only as a lifeline of the people in the region but also foundation of the Family Spirit of “Shared River, Shared Future.”

In the remarks, Deputy Governor of Yunnan Province expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone for long-term care and support for Yunnan Province’s participation in the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.

He also stated that Yunnan Province and Mekong countries have deepened the cooperation in anti-epidemic and health care, economic recovery and regional interconnection.

In addition, he highlighted that providing Yunnan Provincial Government Scholarship to the students from Mekong countries and enhancing cultural exchange among the Mekong-Lancang countries will make concerted efforts to contribute wisdom and strength to the development of cooperation mechanism.

The members of Mekong-Lancang Cooperation are Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam. It was established with an aim to assist regional efforts to achieve sustainable inclusive development and narrowing development gaps in the region, while promoting peace and prosperity.c
