500 more US troops heading to Europe

The Defense Department has announced that 500 more U.S. troops will be heading to Europe to support U.S. efforts to bolster NATO allies amid of the crises. The troops are coming from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Stewart, Georgia, and Fairfield Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington.

John Kirby, Pentagon Spokesman said "These additional personnel are being positioned to respond, obviously, to the current security environment caused by Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and certainly to help reinforce and bolster deterrence and defense capabilities of the NATO alliance."

Some of the troops are going to Germany, Poland or Romania, while others will be stationed in Greece. Among other things, they'll be providing logistics support on the ground and support for flight operations in Europe. Kirby said when the deployment is part of a larger deployment of 7000 U.S. troops to NATO countries that was announced in recent weeks.
