Sagaing Region Government on Sunday celebrated the 33rd World Children’s Day falling on the 20th of November 2022.
Chief Minister U Myat Kyaw and many other officials as well as pre-primary school students and their parents from Monywa and Chaung-U townships attended the celebration at the regional government office.
There, the Chief Minister highlighted efforts for the best interests of the children and the best environment for them.
Parents, communities and the environment need to work together to protect children from various forms of violence including rape and sexual abuse, neglect without proper care, economic labor exploitation, as well as mental and physical abuse and torture. As children are the human resources of the country's future, child protection is an important task, the Chief Minister added.
This celebration included performances by the pre-primary school students and presenting awards and gifts to the students. World Children's Day is celebrated every year on November 20 when the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted in 1989. As an international document of the United Nations, the Convention contains universal standards that States must guarantee for every child.
The Convention was signed by 196 countries, making it the fastest and most widely accepted agreement in the field of international human rights in history. In this way, the world promised that all children would be guaranteed equal rights and that it would do everything to protect and ensure their rights to survive, develop, learn and reach their full potential, without discrimination. This year's World Children's Day theme is 'Inclusion, For Every Child'.
