





Union Minister for Information U Htein Lin attended the opening ceremony of the 2026 South and Southeast Asian Media Network (SSAMN) Annual Meeting in Kunming, Yunnan Province, People’s Republic of China on Tuesday.
During the event, the Information Minister of the Yunnan Provincial Government Ms. Zeng Yan gave an opening speech.
In his remark, the Union Minister said regional challenges such as climate change, economic instability, public health risks and transnational security require collective cooperation. He highlighted the media's role in strengthening friendship and mutual understanding among countries and noted that Myanmar and China had recently agreed to further expand bilateral cooperation during the Myanmar President's state visit to China.
The opening ceremony featured discussions by the All-China Journalists Association and China Daily.
Next, international media representatives jointly unveiled the Yunnan signboard and launched the action plan with a ceremonial button-press. This was followed by a song performance of staff artistes from Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV).
About 200 media representatives from 20 South and Southeast Asian countries attended the meeting. On the sidelines, the Union Minister also met Yunnan provincial officials to discuss expanding Myanmar-China cooperation in the media sector, it’s learnt.
