One hundred and twelve new species have been discovered in Viet Nam, including 106 endemic species that cannot be found elsewhere. This data, published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (WWF), is based on research from hundreds of renowned scientists worldwide.

Notable discoveries include the bright orange crocodile salamander, which lives at altitudes of 1,800m to 2,300m, a starfish-shaped orchid, a shrew weighing only 8 grams which is one of the world’s lightest land mammals, and a soft-haired porcupine with sharp fangs, named the “vampire.” Many of these species are endangered, highlighting the urgent need to protect them and their habitats.
