Work coordination meeting: Meeting on rabies prevention and control held

The Ministry of Health conducted a work coordination meeting on the rabies prevention and control at the Ministry’s office No.4 on Monday morning with the attendance of Deputy Minister Professor Dr. Aye Tun.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister delivered an opening speech, stressing that rabies is a significant public health problem and the prevention and control is an important task in providing public healthcare. He underlined that the purpose of holding the meeting isto systematically carry out rabies prevention and control activities with One Health Approach in collaboration with the Ministry, its relevant departments, organizations and the public.

Next, the Deputy Director of the Central Epidemiology Unitunder the Public Health Department, along with the Director of the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, Departmental head of Health Department and Deputy Director of the Department of Veterinary and Slaughterhouses under the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee gave briefings on the work undertakings for the rabies prevention and control as per the relevant sectors, respectively.

And, the Director General of the Public Health Department reported on the campaign implementation to systematically carry out the disease prevention and control activities in most common places where dog bites occur. She then continued her discussion about laying down the action plans through workshops involving all relevant sectors for the prevention and control of rabies.

Then, the attendees made sector-wise discussion and the Deputy Minister gave a closing remark, emphasizing the need to conduct educative talks and campaigns to raise public awareness about the rabies.
