Progress Meeting: Implementation of Steel Mill Projects

A work coordination meeting was held on Thursday to ensure the successful implementation of two steel mill projects and the constant supply of inputs.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi, Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun, Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than, Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant, deputy ministers, and officials. The discussion focused on machinery maintenance, negotiation with concerned companies, the production process, and input requirements.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the formation of the Project Implementation Agency and Project Implementation Unit, as well as the Project Executing Agency. The projects for No.1 Steel Mill (Myinchan) and No.2 Steel Mill (Pangpet) have been resumed since the 2021-2022 fiscal year. No.1 Steel Mill commenced its operation in March 2023, and as of March this year, over 11,000 tons of steel bars have been produced by the mill.

Phase-2 of the project is scheduled for completion during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. For No.2 Steel Mill, 19 out of 22 workshops underwent a test run in January 2023, and the remaining 3 workshops will undergo testing after completing maintenance works.
