Japan’s pearls popular at jewelry trade fair in Hong Kong

About 80 companies from Japan are promoting the country’s pearls at a large-scale trade fair in Hong Kong, which is the biggest importer of the Japanese gem.

More than 4,000 firms from 44 countries and regions are showcasing their products. Japanese exhibitors include pearl producers, processors and dealers from Mie, Hyogo and other prefectures. They are making their pitch to buyers from mainland China and others.An exhibitor from Mie Prefecture said that there used to be a strong demand from Western countries, but now China and ASEAN nations are the major customers.
