Inspection tour: MoNREC UM inspected islands in Kawthaung

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi visited Myin Khwar Island in Kawthaung Township of Tanintharyi Region on Monday.  

During the visit, the officials reported on the annual domesticated bird nest production in Tanintharyi Region and the conservation status of bird nest islands. Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister emphasized the need to preserve the ecological system of the islands. He added that Tanintharyi Region is a very important destination for nature-based tourism as there are many beautiful islands.

He called on concerted efforts of local residents to conduct awareness campaigns for conservation activities. After that, the Union Minister toured and inspected the conservation of KawtNgar/Kasai Hla and KyatMauk Islands, where natural bird nests are produced.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister met with District and Township level departmental officials at District Forestry Department in Kawthaung and heard the briefing on operations presented by the officials. The Union Minister instructed the officials to meet the department's targets in the forestry, mineral and environmental preservation sectors. He then toured and inspected the thriving conditions of plants cultivated in the tree planting ceremonies in Kawthaung Township and the saplings in Myoma forest nursery garden.
