Information and Media Literacy: Horticultural Exhibition & Discussion in Meikhtila University

In honor of the 77th Anniversary Union Day, Mandalay City Development Committee conducted the 20th Mayor's Cup Vegetable, Fruit and Horticultural Exhibition at Yadanapon Park on Friday morning, along with prize presentation ceremony.

The ceremony was inaugurated with the cut of ceremonial ribbon by the Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, together with the Mandalay Region Chief Minister, Chairman of Mandalay City Development Committee, Mandalay Station Commander and the Head from Mandalay Region Agriculture Department.

The Union Minister and party then toured around the MSMEs booths, sapling shops and the prize-winning vegetable, fruit and horticultural exhibitions. The exhibition included a total of 19 booths showcasing the departmental information and MSME products, as well as 11 flower and sapling shops and others.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister proceeded to the Meiktila University and gave discussion titled “Preventing the Risk of Media Toxicity” and “Nation Building and the Role of Media” to students from Meiktila University and Degree Colleges at convocation hall.

The discussion session was commenced with the screening of the video clip on “Preventing the Risk of Media Toxicity” and “Nation Building and the Role of Media”.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister highlighted the main responsibility of the Ministry of Information that serving the nation and the public by means of media and good public relations are the vital key for the nation building. He stressed that the Ministry is actively engaging in broadcasting true news in an effective way through traditional media as well as new media as today is an era of technological advancement. He underlined that the violence has been happening in various ways based on irrational acts of nation destroyers.

The Union Minister added that the Ministry is making concerted efforts to effectively broadcast the real situations and political development of the country through various media methods in collaboration with local and foreign media outlets. He extended his wishes that the students shouldering the nation duties in the near future have to understand the value of the news media and to use media wisely and beneficially in daily life.

This was followed by lucky-draw program for the attendees including teachers, students, departmental personnel and local residents, and five sets of MRTV DTH satellites and 100 sets of DVB T2 Set Top Box were presented to the lucky winners. The discussion session was joined by a total of 710 students from 8 Universities / Degree Colleges and academic personnel from Meiktila University,Computer University,University of Technology,Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University,Meiktila University of Economics, Government Technological Institute (GTI), Education Degree College and Nursing training school and district/Township level departmental personnel and locals.
