Education Sector: Over 3,190 schools opened in Rakhine State

In Rakhine State, over 3,190 Basic Education Schools were opened on the 1st of June. Due to the damages of school buildings caused by the cyclone Mocha, plans have been made to open the schools phase by phase.

According to Deputy Director of Rakhine State Education Office Dr. Htun Htun Thein, efforts are being made to be able to open schools in the areas which are affected by the Cyclone Mocha.

Moreover, temporary school buildings will be opened, and school enrollment will continue to accept during the school opening period. He added that the Deputy Minister for Education and officials themselves coordinated in the school enrollment process for all basic primary, middle and high schools in Rakhine State.

Additionally, text books, exercise books, stationary and uniforms are provided for the students. Currently, there are over 320,000 students enrolled for the 2023-2024 academic year in Rakhine State.
