Chile hosts conference on protecting environmental defenders in Latin America

Chilean President Gabriel Boric inaugurated the third meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Escazu 2024 Agreement in Santiago, an ambitious plan aiming to protect environmental defenders in Latin America, the most dangerous region in the world for these activists.

Escazu is the first treaty in Latin America that guarantees access to information on environmental matters, the right of citizen participation in decisions affecting the environment and the protection of nature defenders.
