Bali, Indonesia’s most famous island, will start next year collecting 150,000 Indonesian rupiah, or around 10 USD, from foreign tourists, intending to enter the paradise island.

Bali’s Governor said the province will impose the levy in Indonesian rupiah and foreign tourists do not have to refer to the dollar exchange rate. The payment applies only one time during their visit to Bali, and the levy will not apply to domestic Indonesian tourists.

The fee will have to be paid electronically, and will apply to foreign tourists entering Bali from abroad or from other parts of Indonesia. Bali will use the fund collected from the new levy for environment and culture preservation, and better-quality infrastructure development.
