Aftermath of “MOCHA”: Death toll hits 148 as of 21st May evening

The lists of losses and damages in regions and states by the very severe cyclonic storm “MOCHA” on the Bay of Bengal on 14th May are being released in a timely manner.

It has been issued the information that 48 locals from wards and villages in Rakhine State were killed by the cyclone as of the statistics on 17th May afternoon. 6 locals from Sittway, Rathaedaung, Ponnakyun and Myaypon townships of Rakhine State and 91 people from IDP camps, totaling 97 were dead more and the death toll reached 145, according to the statistics as of 18 May evening.

According to further information on 21st May evening, more 3 people from Rathaedaung and Buthidaung townships were dead and that’s why, the total death toll hit 148.

The rescue teams that have been formed in advance in the respective regions and states are undertaking rescue works and rehabilitation measures at the storm-hit areas together with volunteer organizations and social organizations, it is learnt.
