Coordination Meeting: Meeting on purchase, distribution and sale of urea fertilizer

The coordination meeting of the Leading Committee on the Purchase, Distribution and Sale of Urea Fertilizer was held Monday afternoon at the meeting hall of the Union Minister’s Office of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development in Nay Pyi Taw.

Union Minister U Myo Zaw Thein, Chairman of the Leading Committee, attended the meeting and delivered the opening remarks.

In his remarks, the Union Minister urged the Urea Fertilizer Purchase, Distribution and Sale Supervisory Committees of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, regions and states to inspect the availability and use of chemical fertilizers by farmers, as well as lists of fertilizer outlets and their stock levels in respective townships, and include the findings in their monthly reports.

He also called on the member departments to join hands in supervising and facilitating the process. He further emphasized the need for all relevant departments to work together to ensure that fertilizers are supplied in a timely manner, meet the required quality standards and are sold at affordable prices, enabling farmers to purchase and use them directly.

Next, the Secretary of the Leading Committee reported on the implementation of decisions made at previous meetings and presented comparative figures on fertilizer distribution for monsoon paddy and other monsoon crops.

The Chairman of the Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed and Agricultural Input Entrepreneurs Association also briefed the meeting on the current situation regarding the purchase, importation, distribution and sale of chemical fertilizers, as well as plans for further imports.

Deputy Ministers who are members of the Leading Committee, representatives from relevant departments and officials then took part in the discussions and presented their respective views. The Union Minister gave further instructions on the matters requiring attention and delivered the concluding remarks, it is learnt.
