South Korea's intelligence agency has indicated that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have conveyed Pyongyang's position on possible talks with the United States during his recent visit to China.

The National Intelligence Service, or NIS, made the assessment when it reported on the situation in North Korea to a parliamentary committee on Thursday. Lawmakers who attended the committee session said the NIS referred to Kim's meeting with senior Chinese Communist Party officials during Saturday's visit.

Kim's visit came ahead of next month's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in China. The NIS also reportedly did not rule out a possible shift in the situation around the time of the APEC summit.
