German president arrives in China for state visit

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Hefei City, eastern China’s Anhui Province, early Tuesday morning to begin a state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The five-day trip, running from Tuesday to Saturday, marks Steinmeier’s first state visit to China in eight years.

During the visit, Chinese President Xi will hold talks with Steinmeier, and Premier Li Qiang and Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee Zhao Leji would meet with him to exchange views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. This year marks the 54th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Germany.
