Irrigation Facilities: MOALI Deputy Minister inspects irrigation facilities

Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw and officials inspected the structural strength, water inflow and storage capacity of Zalatthtaw Dam in Bago on 24th October.

During the inspection, the Deputy Minister emphasized to conduct regular dam monitoring, V-notch measurements, preparation for natural disasters, emergency respond plans and dam surveillance measures.

The Deputy Minister also observed Alaini Dam in Bago and instructed the necessaries.  Alaini Dam was built to supply water for Lagonpyin dam in Yangon, to prevent flooding in cultivation areas and to distribute irrigation water for monsoon and summer paddy and other crops.

They also visited Lagonpyin Dam in Hlegu Township of Yangon Region where the Deputy Minister heard reports on supply of water for irrigation and drinking purposes. As of 23rd October 2026, Lagonpyin Dam has stored over 1.5 acre feet of water to provide summer paddy cultivation and distribute drinking water to Lagonpyin water purification factory. In 2026-2027, arrangements are being made to distribute water for over 5,000 acres in the catchment area.
