French police arrest around 1,000 people during nationwide demonstrations

French police arrested nearly 1,000 people across the country during nationwide demonstrations over the rising cost of living and education funding, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.

Over 70,000 police officers and gendarmes were deployed across France with pre-march security checks leading to thousands of inspections and weapons confiscations. Authorities noted that widespread commercial looting and property destruction were lower overall due to heavier police protection.
