France to restrict protests after violence and looting

After meeting with intelligence officials, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that only demonstrations organized by trade unions will be authorized on Saturday, with alternative routes designed to protect shops and public buildings.

He added that a defence council will meet on Friday to consider further measures. Macron accused organized far-left groups of seeking to bring down the Republic following violence and looting during protests against the cost of living last weekend.
