Information Sector: Research paper reading session in Yangon

A research paper reading session to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of Sarpay Beikman was held on Tuesday at the Saso Beikman Hall in Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township of Yangon.

In the event, Union Minister for Information U Htein Lin delivered an opening address, stating that "Sarpay Beikman" which has continuously published powerful, public-benefiting quality literature based on the truth of letters, and has unremittingly strived with dedication for the development of Myanmar literature will proudly reach its 80th anniversary on August 26, 2027.

He noted that Sarpay Beikman is steadily and continuously republishing quality literature that will contribute to the nation's development. Following this, research papers were read out and attendees asked questions and discussed matters related to the presented papers. Subsequently, the Union Minister presented honorary gifts.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister met with members of the Film Censor Board at the meeting hall of the Motion Picture Promotion Branch under the Department of Information and Public Relations in Bahan Township. First, the Chairman of the Film Censor Board reported on the board's operational status, followed by discussions and recommendations from the attending censor board members.

The Union Minister then noted that cinematic artistic creation is a discipline crafted through imaginative power; however, if artistic creations involve excessive expressions, certain creations can become toxic for the public. Therefore, original artists need to exercise great vigilance in creating works, and censor board members also need to evaluate and screen motion pictures so that they reach the public free of toxicity.

He added that when inspecting films, censor board members must carry out their reviews based on the provisions of the Motion Picture Law and in accordance with established policies, while also paying close attention to copyright-related matters.
