U.S. diesel prices have climbed roughly 70 percent since the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran began more than seven months ago, with the national average hitting 6.28 U.S. dollars per gallon on Thursday.

The Trump administration has pushed allies to release emergency oil reserves and moved to expand access to tax-exempt red-dyed diesel. But industry insiders said that such measures are unlikely to ease the global shortage of refined petroleum products, and the dyed diesel policy has yet to gain broad uptake among major retailers due to tax and logistical barriers.

Rising diesel prices are adding to cost pressures on U.S. farmers and truck drivers. The cost of living is widely seen as one of the top concerns for American voters.
