Final Rites : Cremation of the remains of Late Chan Myay Sayadaw

Final Rites of the Late Chan Myay Sayadaw took place at the Chan Myay Yeik Tha Monastery in Manyangon Township of Yangon Region on Friday. The congregation led by President U Min Aung Hlaing paid respect to the remains of the Sayadaw.

They then received the Five Precepts from the Vice Chairman of the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee Shwebo Sayadaw. The ceremony included recitation of religious sermons by the Sayadaw, offering of donations, and reading out of the messages of condolences.

After paying the final respect, the remains of the Sayadaw was conveyed Thuwunna Bhumi Ground where the cremation will be taken place. Then, the procession took place for the final rites. The Venerable Chan Myay Sayadaw passed away on 19 September at the age of 99 (Vassa 79).

Before his demise, the Sayadaw served as the Patron of Chan Myay Yeik Tha Monastery, State Ovada Cariya, Rattanyū Maha Nayaka  of the Shwe Kyin Nikāya. The Sayadaw was the recipient of the titles Abhidhaja Agga Mahā Saddhamma Jotika and Agga Mahā Kammaṭṭhānācariya.

Born on 8 Waxing day of Wagaung in 1290 Myanmar Calendar, the venerable Chanmyay Sayadaw spent his entire life teaching Vipassana meditation and engaging continuously in religious activities based on the teachings of the Buddha.

The venerable Sayadaw travelled not only throughout Myanmar but also to various countries abroad to deliver Dhamma talks. He guided his disciples and lay devotees in following the proper path of Dhamma practice. It is learnt that a ceremony to float the ashes and relics of Late Chan Myay Sayadaw will be held at Pansodan Kyanmayay Jetty on September 26.
