Asian Games: Myanmar’s Khin Hnin Wai wins historic teqball gold

Myanmar’s Khin Hnin Wai made history on September 20 by becoming the first Asian Games gold medallist in teqball, after defeating Indonesia’s Sumaya 2-1 in the women’s singles final at the 2026 Games in Japan.

Khin Hnin Wai lost the opening set but fought back to win the final 10-12, 12-8, 12-9 and claim the inaugural women’s singles gold medal in teqball, which is making its Asian Games debut this year.

Myanmar also won two more medals in teqball, adding a silver in women’s doubles and a bronze in men’s singles. In the men’s singles bronze-medal match, Myanmar’s Saw Friday defeated the Philippines’ Prince Agustin 12-7, 12-7 to secure the bronze medal. In the women’s doubles final, Myanmar’s Su Mon Aung and Phyu Phyu Than lost 6-12, 3-12 to Thailand team to take silver. Myanmar’s teqball team finished the competition with one gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the Games.
