People's Military Service : Recognition for completion of people's military service

People’s military servants who have completed their required service period were formally honored at ceremonies held at regional military headquarters across the country.

The servicemen were presented with certificates confirming completion of military service, service badges, commendation certificates and cash awards. Some servicemen who qualified for reduced service periods under the law were also included. Under the current rules, the service period may be reduced by up to half if both parents have served as civil servants for at least 20 years or are retired civil servants.

A reduction of up to one-third may apply if only one parent meets those conditions. Officials said servicemen who complete their required term may choose to continue serving in the military. Those who previously worked for private companies are expected to be able to return to their former or similar positions.

It is learnt that vocational training and employment opportunities are being arranged for discharged servicemen through government departments, local businesses, the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI), and overseas employment agencies. Some former servicemen have also chosen to continue serving in the military voluntarily.
