Youth Olympic flame relay begins in Senegal

The Youth Olympic flame began its 46-day tour in Senegal's capital Dakar on Monday. 

It will travel across the west African nation's 14 regions before returning to Dakar for the opening ceremony of the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games on October 31, marking the start of the first Olympic sports event ever to take place on African soil. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Saturday welcomed the Youth Olympic flame for Dakar 2026 at a ceremony outside the Presidential Palace in the capital Dakar.
