Bilateral Talks : Myanmar and Cambodia hold bilateral meetings

President U Min Aung Hlaing met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet in Phnom Penh on Friday. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet warmly welcomed Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing and the delegation, noting that Myanmar is a trusted country and a close friend of Cambodia.

He recalled the President’s previous visit to Cambodia in 2017 and thanked Myanmar for its support during Cambodia’s ASEAN chairmanship. He expressed to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in trade, investment and other areas.

President U Min Aung Hlaing praised Cambodia’s economic development and the modernization of Phnom Penh. He thanked Cambodia for providing relief supplies and humanitarian assistance to Myanmar following the 2025 Mandalay earthquake.

The President also thanked Cambodia for sending a special representative to his presidential oath-taking ceremony, congratulating him on his election, and sending observers to Myanmar’s first and third election phases. He expressed appreciation for Cambodia’s continued support for Myanmar’s developments and pledged to further strengthen cooperation between Myanmar and Cambodia during his presidency.

The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen friendship and cooperation between Myanmar and Cambodia, including defense and security, trade, manufacturing, investment, MSMEs, tourism, religion and culture, education, and employment.

They also exchanged views on efforts to combat online financial scams and illegal online gambling in both countries. The leaders also discussed Myanmar’s ongoing developments, cooperation within ASEAN, and closer cooperation with regional countries in political, economic and social affairs.

Myanmar reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its close relationship with Cambodia and continuing to be a trusted friend and partner. Following the talks, Myanmar and Cambodia signed and exchanged four agreements and memorandums, which cover investment promotion and protection, avoidance of double taxation, cultural cooperation, and cooperation in information and media.

The documents were signed by relevant ministers and officials from both countries in the presence of President U Min Aung Hlaing and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
