Death of Veteran Singer : Veteran Myanmar singer and songwriter Kai Zar dies at 65

Kai Zar, one of Myanmar's most prominent singers and songwriters of the 1980s and a major figure in the country's stereo music era, has died in Yangon on August 22.

He was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Victoria Hospital after developing a lung infection. Born on February 18, 1961, in Dawei, Kai Zar began his professional music career in the late 1970s. He released his first studio album in 1977.

Kai Zar rose to prominence during the 1980s, when his distinctive voice, songwriting and modern musical style attracted a large Myanmar's younger generation. His music combined elements of rock and contemporary stereo music. It is learnt that he had released around 20 solo albums and more than 200 songs, reflecting the remarkable longevity of his career.
