A regional-level Kayin traditional White Thread Wrist-Tying Ceremony was held at the National Races Village in Yangon on Friday.

Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs U Than Maung attended the ceremony and gave an opening remark. He said the ceremony is an important Kayin cultural tradition passed down through generations. It symbolizes family unity, peace, good health and blessings, while helping preserve Kayin traditions and culture.

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Aung Naing Thu also said that the Kayin people are the second-largest ethnic group in Yangon Region after the Bamar, and highlighted that the regional government is supporting vocational training, cultural events, and traditional festivals for ethnic communities.

This was followed by performance of traditional dances by Kayin Cultural Troupe, and tying of white threads around the wrists of officials, guests and participants as part of the traditional ceremony.
