Flood Warning : Rivers rise above danger levels across Myanmar

Several major rivers across Myanmar have risen above their danger levels, prompting authorities to warn residents in riverbank and low-lying areas to take precautionary measures.

According to the Flood Bulletin issued at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, water levels recorded at 6:30 a.m. showed the Ayeyawady River had exceeded its danger level by 16 centimeters at Nyaung Oo, 58 centimeters at Seiktha, 43 centimeters at Hinthada and 41 centimeters at Zalun.

The water level at Nyaung Oo is forecast to fall below the danger level within the next day. However, levels at Seiktha are expected to fall by around 5 centimeters but remain above the danger level. At Hinthada and Zalun, the river is forecast to rise by approximately 10 centimeters and 13 centimeters, respectively, over the next 24 hours and remain above danger levels.

The Thanlwin River at Hpa-an was 92 centimeters above its danger level and is expected to rise by a further 5 centimeters. Meanwhile, the Sittaung River at Madauk was 51 centimeters above danger level and is also forecast to rise by around 5 centimeters.

The Ngawun River at Ngathaingchaung had reached its danger level and is expected to rise by approximately 10 centimeters during the next day. Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology reported that a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal–North Odisha coasts of India remained in place as of 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The system is expected to move northwestward and become more marked over the next 24 hours. The monsoon remains strong over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, with partly cloudy to cloudy conditions reported across the region.
