Sports Sector: New Sports Stadium opened in Yangon

Aiming for the growth of sports standard within Yangon Region, Mya Thida Sports Stadium was opened in South Okkalapa Township on Friday.

The 200 ft long and 150 ft wide Mya Thida Sports Stadium was constructed by Golden Gate Global Myanmar Pte, Co., Ltd, during 2024-2025 fiscal year with over 5 billion kyats of Yangon Region Government’s budget allocation.

Union Minister for Sports Affairs U Ye Myint Tun inauguragted the ceremony and delivered opening speech. He commended and expressed his appreciation to all responsible individuals for their collective efforts in the successful opening of the stadium. Outlining the importance of sports infrastructure for the emergence of new generation athletes who can uplift the prestige of the nation, the Union Minister called for the concerted efforts of the relevant individuals for the development of Myanmar’s Sports sector.

Subsequently, Patron of Yangon Region Sports and Physical Education Committee, Chief Minister U Aung Naing stressed on the long term resilience of the stadium through systematic maintenance and regular upkeep. He also urged the continuous organization of summer sports training courses under the supervision of qualified experts and instructors to promote skill development and encourage greater participation in sports.

Then, the relevant documents were handed over to the officials. Following this, the Union Minister, Chief Minister and officials enjoyed Myanmar martial arts, aerobic and gymnastics demonstrations. After presenting cash awards to the performers, the Union Minister and party enjoyed the friendly Futsal match between Artists Team and Myanmar Selective Women Futsal Team.
