Nepal has inaugurated the Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola tunnel, the country's first modern road tunnel, built with assistance from Japan.
The 2,688-meter tunnel was opened by Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru. The tunnel is expected to reduce travel time, improve road connectivity and safety, including lowering the risk of landslides along the route. The project has also raised concerns in a nearby village over water shortages and damage to some homes linked to its construction.
