Trump attends World Cup trophy ceremony

U.S. President Donald Trump took center stage during the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy ceremony following the final on Sunday, creating one of the biggest talking points of the tournament.  The final saw Spain defeat Argentina 1-0 after extra time at the New York New Jersey Stadium thanks to a 106th-minute strike by Ferran Torres.

Following the match, President Trump, who attended the game alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, walked onto the field to hand over the iconic trophy to Spanish captain Rodri. As President Trump and Infantino were introduced to the pitch for the presentation, loud boos echoed throughout the stadium from the crowd of roughly 80,000 spectators.
