Argentina sink Switzerland to set up World Cup semi-final

Defending champions Argentina defeated Switzerland after extra time in the quarterfinal on Sunday. Argentina started strong with a 10th-minute header by Alexis Mac Allister, assisted by Lionel Messi.

Switzerland equalized in the 67th minute through Dan Ndoye, but the Swiss were reduced to 10 men five minutes later when Breel Embolo was sent off for simulation. In extra time, Julián Álvarez restored the lead with a brilliant strike, and Lautaro Martínez sealed the 3-1 victory in stoppage time.
