











A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Ye Tint Tun attended the 2026 International Tea Day ceremony held in Nanning, China, on May 20.
At the event, attended by representatives from ASEAN member states, China, FAO, tea experts, and business leaders, the Deputy Minister said tea production plays an important role in Myanmar’s culture and economy.
He highlighted that Myanmar has over 240,000 acres of tea plantations and a unique tradition of consuming tea both as a drink and as food. He added that Myanmar is working to expand exports of organic tea to neighboring countries as well as European and American markets by improving quality standards and producing value-added products.
He also noted that Myanmar tea won a special gold award at a global tea exhibition in Shenzhen in 2023. During the trip, the Myanmar delegation visited tea exhibitions, jasmine tea production facilities, and jasmine plantations in China. They also studied the use of artificial intelligence technologies in agriculture and other sectors at the China-ASEAN AI Innovation Cooperation Center. The delegation returned to Myanmar on May 23.
