Tatmadaw completely regained control in northern Chin State after recapturing Tonzang town. On 23rd April 2023, Tonzang Township in Chin State (North) was temporarily taken control by the so-called CDF, CNA and PDF terrorist groups.
During their occupation, the terrorists killed and injured the departmental personnel and local residents, forcibly recruited residents and compelled them to work for terrorists’ benefit. They monopolized the businesses run by the residents, and blocked the communication routes, disrupting commodity flow and causing severe socio-economic deterioration in the area.
As a result, many residents were forced to flee their homes. Tatmadaw has been conducting counter-terrorism operation in terrorists controlled townships, villages and regions. Their efforts paid off with the successful regaining of full control of Falam on 25th April 2026 and necessary regional development and security measures have been accelerated since then.
Tatmadaw continued the security operations and recaptured the full control of Tonzang Township on 20th May. Along their retreat route, the terrorists destroyed roads and bridges aiming to cause hardship in transportation. During 6 counter operations between Tatmadaw columns and terrorists to recapture Tonzang and nearby areas, Tatmadaw seized 2 bodies, 5 weapons and ammunitions.
At present, Tatmadaw is prioritizing mine clearing activities to ensure the safety and peaceful resettlement of the residents. Likewise, with the collaborative efforts of the local residents, tasks are being carried out for the law-enforcement, as well as to open schools, clinics and hospitals as soon as possible.
