"By learning lessons from the historical experiences and systemic challenges the country has faced, the government must strive relentlessly for national development through good governance.
As a government elected by the people, the cabinet members need to work towards improving the country's economy. Some countries continue to pressure the Government which is serving in accordance with democratic methods chosen by the people, with restrictions and sanctions.
Regardless, the Government will continue to work diligently to strengthen the multi-party democratic system and will persist in building a union based on democracy and federalism. The Government will also pursue the reforms consistent with the democratic system," President U Min Aung Hlaing said on Wednesday at a Union Government meeting.
During the meeting, the President urged greater efforts regarding the national economy, learning from the challenges faced across different eras to work for national development through good governance. He called for efforts to produce import-substituting products and to boost the export sector, and emphasized the need to promote domestic and international tourism as well as MSME businesses to achieve economic growth.
He instructed civil servants to fulfill their state-assigned duties diligently, free from corruption, working for the benefit of the state and the people. He noted that the state can suffer great losses due to corrupt practices, so it is necessary to avoid situations requiring action against corruption.
He stressed that to prevent corrupt practices, vigilant oversight must be maintained at the Union level, as well as at the region and state levels. Afterwards, the Union Ministers discussed and presented on their respective sectors. Following these presentations, the President provided necessary guidance and delivered concluding remarks.
