French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met in northern Poland on Monday to discuss strengthening defence cooperation and shifting US engagement in Europe.

The meeting followed the signing of a treaty of friendship and enhanced cooperation between France and Poland in May. Discussions included the possibility of Polish involvement in elements of France’s nuclear deterrence framework, including early warning and air defence capabilities, while France maintains full control over any decision to use its nuclear forces.
