Mexican President meets FIFA chief Infantino

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the National Palace in Mexico City to review preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host alongside the United States and Canada.

 Sheinbaum said preparations are being evaluated and expressed confidence that the event will be “wonderful” and historic.  Infantino also said the tournament would be “a success for Mexico.”

The leaders discussed Mexico’s readiness to host the tournament, including infrastructure, stadium renovations, and logistics. The World Cup is scheduled to kick off on 11 June 2026 at Estadio Azteca, where Mexico is expected to play the opening match.
