The United Nations human rights chief Volker Turk on Friday called for restraint in the Middle East, urging parties involved in the conflict to take immediate steps to de-escalate and allow space for peace efforts.

Volker Turk, UN HCHR said "I urge the states involved to take immediate steps to de-escalate, to give peace a chance, and on other states to call clearly on those involved to pull back. Cool heads must prevail if we are to prevent further terror and devastation for civilians.".

Speaking at a press conference, Turk also called on other countries to encourage those involved in the conflict to pull back in order to prevent further suffering among civilians.
