Sánchez rebuts Trump threat

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez delivered a firm response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to end trade with Spain. Sánchez reiterated his opposition to war and condemned what he described as the “breakdown of international law.”

Sánchez’s stance highlights Spain’s commitment to diplomacy and adherence to international norms, even amid pressure from Washington.

Trump’s threat was sparked after the Spanish government refused to let the United States use jointly-operated military bases in southern Spain (like Rota and Morón) for attacks related to the ongoing U.S.-Israeli military action against Iran. Spain said such use must comply with international law and United Nations approval, and it did not permit the bases for offensive operations.
