Congo President vows to keep power as campaign kicks off

Republic of the Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso promised to extend his decades-long time in power on Saturday as campaigning kicked off for next month's presidential election.

Six opposition candidates had formally confirmed they will be standing from the Republican Movement. But the opposition stands little chance of winning, with the ruling party promising a wave in favor of its "patriarch". It was learned that campaigning will end on March 13th, with the first round of voting on March 15th.
