Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said a Sicilian court on Wednesday has ordered Italy to compensate an NGO for blocking its migrant rescue ship in port in 2019. The court in Palermo city ruled that German charity Sea-Watch be compensated 76,000 euros for the blockade, the NGO said in a statement on social media.

Meloni told that she was not in office at the time and will do everything necessary to defend the borders and the safety of citizens.
