Trump congratulates Japan PM Takaichi on election win

US President Donald Trump has congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and her coalition on a landslide victory in a snap election. In a statement, Trump praised Takaichi as a highly respected and popular leader, saying her decision to call an election paid off.

He noted that her party now controls the legislature with a historic two-thirds supermajority, the first since World War II. Trump added that it was an honor to endorse Takaichi and wished her success in advancing her conservative “peace through strength” agenda, while expressing continued support for the people of Japan.
