The Portuguese government decided Thursday, during a Council of Ministers meeting, to extend the state of emergency until February 15 “to face the adverse weather conditions”. Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said everything possible had been done to prevent and minimize the damage caused by Storms Kristin and Leonardo across mainland Portugal.

“No one is left behind,” he said. Portugal is expected to face a series of new storms through Saturday, while repairs from previous storms remain incomplete. The country is also at risk of flooding due to unusually heavy rainfall.
